2008 PGA Championship Winner Excited to Pick Out Home at White Oak.

Tryon, NC - Padraig Harrington, the 2007 and 2008 Champion Golfer of the Year, and first European born player to win the PGA Championship since 1930 got his U.S. vacation started in impressive fashion on Sunday…and the fireworks for Harrington are just beginning. The current owner of the Claret Jug and Wannamaker Trophy will pick out his first-ever North American home at White Oak Golf & Equestrian Community this week. The golf and equestrian community in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina known for its Irish-American culture and amenities will serve as Harrington’s North American residence while playing the U.S. PGA TOUR.

White Oak Golf & Equestrian Community is a 1,100 acre pristine development rich in amenities and a deep appreciation for the Irish way of life. White Oak showcases an unprecedented combination of lifestyle features, including a challenging in-community Arnold Palmer-designed golf course, world class equestrian facilities designed by Olympic gold medalist Captain Mark Phillips, a private vineyard, a celestial observatory and an authentic Irish pub — all in the tranquil foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, strategically located between Charlotte and Atlanta.

“My family and I are really excited to select our home at White Oak,” said Harrington. “Whenever we walk on property it just feels like a great place to base ourselves while in North America. I am eager to celebrate my recent success with some close friends within the White Oak family, who have been great supporters in recent years.”

White Oak Golf & Equestrian Community draws from its developers’ distinctively Irish heritage — a community rich in Old World culture, state-of-the-art amenities and natural beauty. From the indigenous-stone Irish architecture, to the 71-par Arnold Palmer Championship golf course, to the riding and hiking trails winding through lakes and meadows of the Blue Ridge Mountain foothills, White Oak is a return to life on the land.

“Padraig will be on-site with us this Sunday, and with these two recent wins I can assure you there will be just as much celebrating as business getting done,” said Michael Carroll – White Oak Project Manager. “The way he’s been playing lately in these majors we may already need to consider expanding the plans for his trophy room.”

The Golf Course at White Oak is set to open in Spring 2009, with 9 holes completed and open for limited play in Fall 2008. For more information on White Oak and its relationship with Padraig Harrington, visit www.whiteoaktryon.com.
